Start with the contact page. Every new relationship begins with a note. Tell me a little about what you're looking for and I'll be in touch to find a time.
You'll find me at Birthroot. I see patients in person at Birthroot Midwives and Birth Center, 1600 Broadway in Bellingham, and by telehealth throughout Washington State.
Births are with the Birthroot team. I attend births as a midwife alongside the team at Birthroot. I'm not taking my own clients for labor and birth, but I'd love to see you for prenatal and postpartum care.
Because I'm on call, the schedule breathes. There may be days I need to reschedule your appointment because I'm at a birth. I'll always do my best to keep this rare, though none of us control when babies arrive.
Care is private-pay and transparent. I practice as an out-of-network provider and don't bill insurance for gynecology or pediatrics. You'll know the cost of your visit before you come.
Acute visits are handled carefully. Sick or acute pediatric visits are scheduled case by case: sometimes in the car or by telemedicine, to keep pregnant folks and new babies safe.
From a patient
After the birth of my first child, my vaginal pH felt completely off. I had an unpleasant odor that made me feel uncomfortable, self-conscious, and honestly, just not like myself.
I saw an OB, a midwife, and several other practitioners trying to figure out what was going on and how to fix it. Nothing helped and no one could figure out the root cause.
Then I found Dr. Ash. Even though I didn't have much hope left, I reached out and asked for her help. She gave me a simple protocol to follow, and within just two days, all of my symptoms were gone. They've remained gone.
Relief.
I'm so grateful I found her. I highly recommend Dr. Ashley to anyone experiencing vaginal or intimate health concerns. She is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly the best.

I was raised in Boise, Idaho, and after a transformative gap year in Brazil I attended Western Washington University, where I completed the recreation program along with all my prerequisites for medical school. I went on to earn my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Certificate in Midwifery from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
From a young age I felt called to support others in their healing journeys. At twenty, reading Spiritual Midwifery and attending a birth confirmed my deep calling to serve women through menarche, birth and beyond. During medical school I also developed a strong interest in pediatrics and herbal medicine.
As both a midwife and a naturopathic doctor, I see myself as an advocate, a witness and a teacher. I hold bodily autonomy as a core value, with informed consent at the heart of my care. As a pediatric provider I practice from a high-nurture, attachment-based lens, walking with you to deepen your intuitive parenting, and helping sift through the science and the noise of our current culture.
After graduating I spent a year on Molokai, Hawaii, working at a Native health care center providing primary care and adjunctive gynecology, then three years as a midwife and naturopath at a birth center in Astoria, Oregon. Now I'm thrilled to be back in Washington offering integrative gynecology, midwifery, holistic women's health and pediatrics, with virtual visits throughout the state.
Outside of work I find joy in nature: white water rafting, swimming, hiking and laying on the beach. You'll also find me at community meals, on the dance floor, lifting weights, and finding ceremony in the everyday. My partner Chris and I welcomed our first child in January 2026 and are completely and totally in love with being parents.

Rates & insurance
Clear costs up front.
A private-pay practice, so fees are straightforward. No insurance-inflated rate, no waiting to find out what a visit cost.
Current Birthroot clients are treated as existing patients.
Do you take insurance?
Currently I practice as an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance for gynecology or pediatrics.
If you have a high-deductible plan, you may be surprised to learn that paying for naturopathic care directly can sometimes be more affordable than using insurance. Because this is a private-pay practice, my fees are straightforward and transparent. You're not paying an insurance-inflated rate while waiting to meet a deductible, and you can know the cost of your care up front.
If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you may be able to submit a superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Depending on the plan, your insurer may reimburse a portion of your visit and/or apply the eligible amount toward your out-of-network deductible.
Every plan is a little different, so I encourage you to call your insurance company and ask about your out-of-network benefits, deductible, reimbursement rates, and coverage for naturopathic services.
One more thing: I'm a midwife
Being on call means there may be days I need to reschedule your appointment because I'm at a birth. I'll try my best to limit this, though none of us can control when birth happens. Thank you, in advance, for your grace.
